Overview

The Kodak Brownie 8mm is an 8mm movie camera made by Eastman Kodak, introduced in 1951 as one of the first models in its design line. It was marketed as an affordable home movie camera, with a later version known as the "Improved Model II" produced in the 1960s. The camera advances the film at 16 frames per second using a claw and toothed sprocket mechanism. A surviving manual references a turret-mounted f/1.9 lens, indicating a later variant with interchangeable lenses. The camera gained historical note for being present at the JFK Museum with an association to November 22, 1963.

Design

The film transport uses a claw and large toothed sprocket to drive the film at 16 fps. One version features a turret lens mount, allowing for multiple lenses to be mounted on a rotating head.
