Sony TC-K65
A metal tape-compatible stereo cassette deck with microcomputer-controlled operation and Dolby NR, designed for high-fidelity recording and playback.
Overview
The Sony TC-K65 is a stereo cassette deck produced by Sony, featuring advanced automation and high-performance specifications for its era. It shares a similar configuration with the TC-K55 but adds an RMS (Random Memory Music Sensor) and replaces the VU meter with an LED peak program meter. The unit is microcomputer-controlled, using a 4-bit 42-pin LSI for operation, and supports direct change operation for fast tape handling.

Design
The TC-K65 uses a 2-motor mechanism with a BSL (brush and slot-less) motor and non-contact magnet clutch for precise tape transport. The recording head combines Sendust and ferrite (S & F), offering strong high-frequency response and high saturation flux density, while the erase head uses a magnetic focus 4-Gap design. The amplifier section employs a ±2 power supply system, and input circuits for mic and line are separated with dedicated volume controls. It includes a built-in recording master volume, Rec Mute with auto space, autoplay/memory play, and follow-up recording. A 4-step tape selector with independent bias and equalizer settings supports various tape types, and the unit features an auto shut-off mechanism and a built-in see-through lamp. The remote control unit was sold separately.
Product Family
The TC-K65 shares nearly the same configuration as the TC-K55 but adds an RMS (Random Memory Music Sensor) and an LED peak program meter in place of the VU meter and peak indicator.
