Sony TC-2250SD
A high-fidelity stereo cassette deck from Sony featuring Dolby noise reduction and a precision dual capstan transport system.
Overview
The Sony TC-2250SD is a stereo cassette deck designed for high-quality analog tape recording and playback. It supports both standard and chromium dioxide (CrO₂) tapes using a built-in tape selector and delivers extended frequency response when used with Sony Chromicassette. The unit features a closed-loop dual capstan transport with a central head placement for improved tape stability and reduced wow and flutter.

Design
The TC-2250SD uses an F & F (ferrite & ferrite) head directly connected to the first-stage FET of the head amplifier for improved signal integrity. The preamplifier employs two low-noise FETs with excellent linearity and high-frequency performance. A closed-loop dual capstan system positions the head between two capstans to stabilize tape movement. A hysteresis synchronous motor with anti-vibration measures drives the mechanism, while a built-in stabilization circuit ensures consistent Dolby performance despite power supply fluctuations. The deck includes a memory counter, auto shut-off via electronic circuit, a see-through lamp for monitoring tape condition, and a removable eject box lid for easy head cleaning. It supports SQ4-channel recording and playback and features Sony's original limiter recording method.
Market
The Sony TC-2250SD had an original price of ¥56,800 around 1972.
