Sansui BA 1000 (1975)
A stereo power amplifier from 1975 using vertical power FETs in a pure complementary circuit, capable of BTL mono operation
Overview
The Sansui BA-1000 is a stereo power amplifier released in 1975. It uses newly developed vertical power FETs in a fully complementary output stage and operates as a source follower. The design supports BTL (Bridge-Tied Load) mono operation via a rear panel switch, and two types of speakers can be connected. It features a robust protection system including current limiting, temperature detection, and a protector indicator.

Design
The BA-1000 uses a pure complementary circuit with newly developed N- and P-channel vertical power FETs in the output stage, operating as an ideal source follower. The drive stage uses a class A emitter-follower circuit with active followers for both positive and negative cycles. A PNP low-noise twin transistor is used in the first stage. The power supply includes a toroidal transformer and two 10,000 μF electrolytic capacitors. A bias stabilizing circuit maintains stability under ±20% power supply fluctuations. A heat sink is externally mounted on the rear panel, designed for optimal air convection. Protection includes a current limiter, temperature detection, and a timing circuit using a diode switch and time constant.
