Design
The LS-880 uses Kenwood's Class A suspension on the woofer, a unique system where two suspensions counteract non-linear distortion for linear diaphragm motion. The 27 cm woofer features a 3-layer composite cone reinforced with HR carbon and a rigid aluminum voice coil driven by a 92,000 maxwell magnet. The 7.5 cm midrange uses an ion-plated titanium semi-dome diaphragm with a 46,000 maxwell magnet and heat-curable aluminum wire voice coil. The 2.5 cm tweeter employs a plasma diamond titanium diaphragm—ion-plated for hardness exceeding titanium—with a strontium ferrite magnet and internal Class A suspension. The crossover uses isolated PCBs for each driver to reduce crosstalk, with oxygen-free copper wiring. Acoustic level controls allow adjustment based on room placement, and the cabinet features rounded baffles to reduce diffraction.
